Are you ready to learn how to crush a Monday in a few short steps?

Let me tell you this. I used to dread Mondays.

Actually it was Sunday nights when the anxiety started. Honestly, I could never really pinpoint WHY I felt that way, I just knew I did.

Over the last 10 years I’ve experienced a lot of big life events, more than some people go through in 30 years. Some good, some bad and many life-changing. I can’t change anything that’s already happened, but you better bet your ass l’ve learned something in the last 10 years.

Something I’m learning recently after years of ups and downs?

How to Crush a Monday

The first step is to spend Sunday with people you love and care about.

It’s important that these people feel the same way about you as well. A lot of people say you are a combination of the five people you spend the most amount of time with. If that is truly the case, spending your Sunday with the right people seems like a good idea to help you get set up for a great week ahead, right?

The next step is to make sure that you get a good nights sleep.

Sounds like common sense right? But seriously… Monday is tough enough and starting the day exhausted will most likely limit your productivity. Do yourself a favor and try to get seven or eight hours of sleep.

The next thing I want you to do in order to crush a Monday is to get up 15 to 20 minutes earlier than you normally do on Monday morning.

When you are in a rush, you will be more stressed. Get up, get organized and take your time getting prepared for the day. Plus, you might be able to sneak in an extra cup of coffee!

On your ride to work, listen to something that inspires you.

It can be a favorite album, a podcast, an audiobook, or a sermon. It really doesn’t matter…what does matter is:

Does it inspire you to be better?

When you approach your first client or coworker, smile and ask him (or her) about his weekend. Make the conversation about your coworker. Crack a joke and keep it light hearted, but start the day off with a smile and some type of friendly conversation.

Now it’s time to work.

The big suggestion here…

When it’s time to work, crush it. Put everything you have into your work. Even if it’s for a few hours at a time, put your head down and crush it.

For some (MOST) people, multitasking is the enemy of productivity. Set a goal, give yourself a timeline, and get it done.

I have a really tough time sitting still for hours on end, but when I do I’ve been using the Pomodoro technique. This basic technique has been a game changer for me, I encourage you to check it out!

Here is a brief description of the Pomodoro Technique:

Time to break from work?

When it is time to break from crushing work, you need to refuel, but still stay focused. Grab a cuppa coffee and a snack that will give you some energy, but won’t weigh you down.

During this break, reach out to clients or friends via text or short email(s). Send words of encouragement, a funny picture or just check in. You’d be amazed at how a simple friendly text message can alter the course of someone’s day.

If you do take a lunch, get outside and experience the outdoors, even if it’s just for 10 minutes. You’ll be amazed at how rejuvenated you feel after some fresh air. A 10 minute walk after you eat will reinvigorate you and keep your energy levels up.

As far as the rest of your day goes, rinse and repeat.

When it’s time to work, bust your ass. Put your head down, avoid distractions and just get it done. When it’s time to rest, make sure that you are actually resting. This means completely avoiding work and doing something for yourself.

Key Takeaway

Most people live in the middle of work and rest, but never truly experience either one.

When you live in the middle of work and rest, you just become mediocre. I’m pretty sure most people’s goals are not to become mediocre at something.

When I’m productive and I get things done, there is a huge sense of accomplishment. I feel proud of the work I did.

When I really rest and recharge my batteries, it allows me to be a better father, husband, friend and coworker.

Now…enough from me. Get out there and crush your Monday!
