At first glance, our sports performance training program at SOS looks similar to any other sports performance program out there.
We’ve got the basics covered…we have a huge turf area, plenty of barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, sleds, ropes, speed ladders, and a handful of (useful) cardiovascular equipment.
But, it’s not our equipment that sets us apart.
Its our training system.
We start each athlete in our COMPETE sports performance training program with a thorough evaluation. This gives us vital information on how to get each athlete moving in the most efficient way possible.
When it comes to human movement, quality takes precedence over quantity. When you improve the weakest link, that is where the magic happens!
In our compete program, every athlete gets a specific movement prep designed for his or her individual needs. Once each athlete performs his or her customized movement prep, the group also preps together, specifically for the activities written for the daily workout.
Let’s talk about the meat and potatoes of our high school sports performance training program.
Strength training!
- We are not fancy, we focus on the basics day day in and day out. We firmly believe that the key to performing at a high level is having the ability to master the basics.
- We will teach you how to squat.
- We will teach you how to deadlift.
- You will press, perform pull-ups, practice split squat variations, row, lunge, and perform loaded carries.
- These are the lifts that will get you stronger than your opponent.
After our strength training, we move into skill development.
- We will teach you how to jump properly, how to land safely and efficiently.
- We’ll teach you proper body position and shin angles for changing direction.
- Our coaches will teach you the most effective foot speed drills for developing that explosive first step.
- We will teach you how to run correctly. Running is a skill and it’s important to understand proper foot strike, Body positioning, arm action, tempo and intensity.
Finally, we finish with conditioning.
- When it comes to conditioning, we implement cutting edge research on energy systems development. Our goal isn’t to just make our athletes tired, it’s to make them perform at the highest level possible.
- Anyone can make you tired, but not everyone can make you better.
Your health is important.
We understand that in order to perform at high-level, you must be healthy. Through our network of chiropractors, physical therapists and local medical professionals, we can help you navigate through injuries and bridge the gap from rehab to performance.
All of this does not come easy! Our athletes work hard!
In order to be the best, you need to be consistent. This means training 3 to 5 days a week. We work with athletes to ensure they are fueling their bodies properly, and getting adequate sleep. Sleep and recovery in general are vital to performance and allow you to reach your full potential.
Skill of Strength is different. We teach athletes everything they need to know to be the best athlete possible.
So what are you waiting for? Are you ready to COMPETE?
A recent parent testimonial…
Thank you to both of you {Mike and Steve} and the rest of the Skill of Strength staff for all you have done with and for my son over these last few months. He enjoys going to your gym and feels extremely comfortable in the environment you have created there.
You obviously value both the physical, mental, and emotional components of an athlete, and the development and transformation that we have witnessed these areas, in such a short period of time, has been incredible. Thank you for working with him and for understanding him as a person.
When I reached out to Steve in July, I was hoping to push my son out of his comfort zone and give him something to latch on to – to help him set goals and achieve some measure of success. There is always more work to be done, but you have helped him accomplish that, and more.
When my wife and and I look at Danny, we see all that he is capable of, and we see the wonderful young man that he has become. I believe that his hard work and your support and encouragement has put him on a path that will enable him to recognize and utilize his full potential as well.
As parents, that all we could want or hope for. Thank You.
